Pre-Alliance
What does this mean?
When you get to graduation, you will have a choice between a company driver manager or pre-alliance driver manager. There's no real difference between these two, except for how long it takes to qualify for Contractor Services. As you'll see below, the faster route to becoming a contractor is pre-alliance. You can potentially average 2,500 - 3,200 miles a week average in pre-alliance. Company drivers usually average 1,800 - 2500 miles a week.
By choosing Pre-alliance (PA) in graduate class, you are not obligated to become a part of the Contractor Division. Under PA you are still a company driver, and you are dispatched similar to CD drivers. Your wages will be the same as a company driver, but you have the potential for better loads and more miles per week.
You have up to 90 days to decide to join CD under PA. This allows you to experience the dispatch program similar to CD before making a decision. If you decide not to join, after 90 days you will be transferred to company side automatically.
Your qualifications for CD begins when you are issued your first truck.
Requirements for CD are as follows:
• Pre-alliance: 8,500 miles in 30 days. That’s about 2,125 miles per week minimum average.
• Company driver: 8,500 miles average per month over 90 days. That’s about 2,125 miles per week minimum average.
• There should be no major incidents in this time period, no violations.
• 2800 - 3200 miles a week average should be your goal as a PA or CD driver. There's no guarantee of these miles. That’s roughly 450 miles per day maximum average and about 9-10 hours a day driving most days.
